Rest in peace – it’s a wish many of us have made when a loved one passes away. However, an Australian researcher has found that the human body doesn’t necessarily meet death with the serenity we’d like to think of. Instead, this is what really happens to a body when life ends – and it’s surprising to say the least.
You see, Alyson Wilson made her discovery while working at the Australian Facility for Taphonomic Experimental Research, also known as AFTER. The organization, part of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), has its own “human body farm” facility, where researchers study human remains in various conditions outdoors. And this scientific research helps bolster areas of crime investigation, especially concerning deceased human victims.
