Flying over a previously unmapped area of Cambodian jungle in 2012, a group of archaeologists come equipped with special laser technology. For the land beneath their aircraft is holding a secret, and these lasers are going to help reveal it. But it was only when they returned three years later that they could fully appreciate what they’d discovered.
Now, the area of focus for these specialists was Phnom Kulen, situated in the Cambodian province of Siem Reap. And while the jungle had long been occupied by humans, until recently no maps of it were ever created. For the area’s thick woodlands served as an obstacle to charting efforts – not to mention something altogether more dangerous.
